Wellness of Elders

Promoting the wellness of elders and preventing the mistreatment of adults in vulnerable situations are key priorities of the NRBHSS’ Department of Planning and Programming. Rooted in the IQI model, our approach values community-driven solutions that support dignity, respect and inclusion for all. Respecting and honouring elders and adults in vulnerable situations is essential to building stronger, healthier communities.

Honouring our elders

Elders are at the heart of Inuit culture. They have in-depth knowledge of the land, language, family histories, and traditional ways of life. Their wisdom is shared through stories, teachings and daily examples. Strengthening connections with elders is a vital part of community healing and cultural continuity.

Supporting adults in vulnerable situations

Adults living with disabilities, chronic illnesses or functional or other limitations continue to meaningfully contribute to their families and communities. Everyone, regardless of their circumstances, deserves to feel safe, respected and valued.

In this section of our Web site, we share resources, programs and initiatives that promote well-being and help prevent mistreatment. Together, we can create an environment where all Nunavimmiut are treated with the dignity they deserve.
